Illinois Kayaking instruction

3 DAY PADDLE CAMP

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

7:30 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.

           This 3 day camp is designed to get pre-teens and teens out of the house and into a new sport.  This camp is for those between 10 and 15 years of age.

(8 person minimum and 12 person maximum)   Here is a sample schedule:

           Monday      

          7:30 am:  group meets at Fayetteville, IL property, loads gear, and travels to class site

          8:00 am:  arrive at class site (Fayetteville, IL City Park or Boat Ramp), introduction of staff and participants, introduction to Wilderness Outreach Adventures and “leave no trace” outdoor standards.

          8:30 am:  Fundamentals of Kayak Touring.    This is a dry class designed to address all of the basics of  kayaking before putting the participant on the water.  We will cover safety items, including wet exit procedures, in this class as well as while on the water.

         11:00 am:  short break/prepare for river trip

         11:30 am – 4:00 pm:  this is the first leg of the Kaskaskia River Trip.  The first class takes us from Fayetteville, IL to New Athens, IL.  There will be breaks along the way to enjoy nature and eat our lunches.  Guides and helpers (affectionately know as “Sherpas”) will be along on this trip to assist and answer any questions.  Training will be throughout the day with particular emphasis on practicing and reviewing paddle strokes learned.

         4:00 pm: take out at New Athens, IL boat ramp and load gear

         5:00 pm – 5:30 pm:  return to Wilderness Outreach campgrounds
